Lockport City School District retained Trautman Associates to provide a Smart Schools Capital Improvement Project. The $28.6 million CIP was passed in 2016 and was broken down into two phases.

Phase 1 included athletic field work and was completed in November 2018. This included a new synthetic turf track and football field at Emmet Belknap, as well as new tennis courts, soccer field, and softball field.

Phase 2 included interior improvements at six academic buildings, which included new STEM classrooms, renovated science labs at the high school, locker room renovations and MEP improvements.
