CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. — Trautman Associates, lead architect for a design build team that includes Buffalo Construction Consultants recently celebrated Niagara Power Transformer’s landmark $71-million-plus expansion at their manufacturing campus in Cheektowaga. The major development, known as the Niagara Power 50 Initiative, officially broke ground today and represents the largest capital investment in the manufacturer's history.

Trautman Associates designed a comprehensive expansion tailored to meet NTP’s stringent plan requirements to increase production capability, capacity, and efficiency and accommodate specialized transformer manufacturing and production equipment. The architectural scope encompasses 96,000 square feet of new and renovated space across the campus, featuring: a new winding production area, assembly areas, a welding and fabrication facility, expanded storage & logistics space, and utility & infrastructure upgrades.

The expansion directly addresses nationwide supply chain bottlenecks for critical electrical grid equipment. Once complete, the project will increase Niagara Power Transformer’s manufacturing capacity by 50%, helping meet surging national demand driven by industrial growth, renewable energy integration, and grid modernization.

Beyond architectural innovation, the project generates substantial local economic impact in WNY including:

- 146 existing local jobs and creation of 73 new full-time positions
- Reinforces partnerships with more than 160 suppliers across New York State.
- Public-Private Investment: Supported by state and regional development initiatives, including the New York Power Authority’s Western New York Power Proceeds program, the Excelsior Jobs Program, the NYS Brownfield Cleanup Program, and the Erie County Industrial Development Agency (ECIDA).

Originally founded in 1924 Niagara Power Transformer continues to be a cornerstone of Western New York’s industrial ecosystem.
