The Sisters of St. Joseph experienced a series of trends within their community that impacted their existing facility. Trautman Associates examined the utilization of the existing spaces at the Immaculate Conception Convent. Each space was evaluated as to how it could be reconfigured to meet the Sisters’ present and future needs.
Information was gathered through a series of interviews with representative groups of Sisters and staff. Additional data was obtained from questionnaires, available drawings and through field observations.
The study revealed infirmary spaces and building systems were inadequate for the level of health care presently required and anticipated for the future. Bathing, toilet facilities and corridor spaces were not accessible to persons with limited mobility.
The facility was upgraded to provide a state-of-the-art, 40-bed health care facility for the Order. The addition also accommodates meeting space, food service and ancillary functions for the entire convent.
